I'm a first-year in the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University majoring in chemical engineering and plant sciences with hopeful minors in creative writing and biochemistry. I have particular interests in learning and architecting the chemical systems of plants: in their internal biochemistry, their chemical ecological interactions, and in the application of those processes in service to society. Plants to me, however, aren't only their chemical constituents or their ecosystem participation, but peers, artistic muses, and
A cross-country coach once told me on picking when to run vs. jog during races that I ought to sprint up the hills, and slow going down them. My approach towards academics is well summarized by that strategy: quality, thoroughness, and challenging myself in the interest of growth are all fundamentals.
Outside of academics, I am a member and the current art editor for Kalliope, a novice rower for Club Crew, and am working to be able to identify the 500 most common plants in the forests, fields, and bogs of Central Pennsylvania. I am excited to be helping with research this summer between the grain production and weed science labs at Penn State, where I hope to translate the work I've done this year into research skills in the agricultural sciences.
